An essential part of supporting hormonal health is to develop improved nutrition and brain chemistry. The Hormone Whisperer staff helps each client develop a better nutrition and brain chemistry foundation, which assists proper hormone functioning and clearance.
Nutrition is the basic building block for our patients, since we’re often not taught good nutrition from an early age and have developed poor eating habits and lifestyles. For example, if you don’t have enough healthy fats in your diet, your ability to make and hold hormones in their receptor sites is decreased. In addition, if you are low in healthy fats, you will experience insatiable cravings for whatever fat sources you can find, such as inferior (or damaged) fats from fast food and many processed choices. Another example of poor nutrition is when the lack of specific nutrients for the liver increases the production of 4 hydroxyestrone – known to be a cancer risk concern.
Essentially, good nutrition is key to better hormonal and overall health. It’s not about advocating a certain eating style, such as vegetarian, macrobiotic, high protein-low carb approach, it’s simply looking at what you really eat daily, finding what you are drawn to, learning about nutrition and what other foods do in the body, and helping to correct poor habits with some easy and proven approaches. Our long experience with nutritional counseling assists our patients with their specific issues as well as in developing a healthier lifestyle.
Increasing evidence suggests that brain chemistry is as critical, if not more so, than nutrition. For example, if you are low in one of the major neurotransmitters, you may experience intense cravings for certain foods and substances, such as caffeine, sugar, starchy white foods, alcohol and drugs. Brain chemistry imbalances may be caused by typical life stresses, traumas and very often the very substances that create and reinforce those cravings, such as that candy bar in the late afternoon. Even if a person has a reasonably good diet, they often are not able to conquer their food addictions due to brain chemistry imbalances. We at The Hormone Whisperer help each patient with a brain chemistry profile and customized program, such as amino acid supplements, which helps to complement our suggested nutritional counseling.
Nutrition and brain chemistry go hand-in-hand. No matter what your age, it’s never too late to make some wonderful healthy lifestyle changes.
